Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.
Proverbs 10:10 Whoever winks the eye causes trouble, but the one who rebukes boldly makes peace. WISDOM LOVINGLY DIRECTS
Mark 6:12So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. 13They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
– there needs to be some engagement…numbering, applying, rebuking, proclaiming, casting and anointing, curing… my role is numbering mine and other’s days and applying wisdom…lovingly directing others to have courage to rebuke and cure… Holy One give me courage and grace to engage / live in this world using my vocation and gifts. Thanks for helping me be sensitive to the opportunities as they arise…including this blog.

This is the first Lectio post after my post in 24jan21 – Seeking HIs Mind. In that post I tried to describe what I was hearing in terms of me and blogging – I wrote. Basil also writes, “I am grateful that I have had the joy and privilege … of sharing with my fellow travelers some of the words the Lord has spoken to me…And the feedback has indicted that the Lord has spoken them there also, creating bonds among us that have multiplied our joy in the word.” These words have inspired me to blog more often. I’m not anticipating the same results – wisdom or response – of a Basil Pennington and yet I feel more encouraged to write what I hear with the ear of my heart. If it can encourage others that they can personally hear from the Holy One, creates bonds and multiplies joy for anyone, it will be worth taking the risk of putting myself out there. That “showing up”… which is what a healthy “five” can do, with practise.
So here I am “showing up” after 6 months. To make it easy to “show up” I’ve set things up so I can post via email. It will simply be what I write in my Lectio journal. Firstly – what stands out for me in the weekly scripture readings (which I present get from the app – Lectionary: The Church of England -from Church House Publishing. It’s quite good and even includes some special church events like saint days). Secondly – I re-read them after more silence to see how they apply to my life…which I journal. Thirdly I add a prayer…keeping to the traditional Lectio Divina practise. I often open with a prayer I put together from various sources and close with Centering Prayer including lighting a candle and one for special requests along with some incense. I’ve started to go for a 30 minute walk afterwards as much for physical movement (fitness and weight) as continued meditation…although today I was struck by the wonderful trees assigned to be cut down due to DutchElm disease…sad but necessary. But that’s another blog.
As I just reread today’s Lectio reflection I realised that going for a walk and creating this blog and reply was an active response to that “word” I heard – “there needs to be some engagement”. The words “wisdom lovingly directs” are from a wonderful book on the Enneagram – Spiritual Rhythms for the Enneagram: A Handbook for Harmony and Transformation by two couples – Calhoun and Loughrige. The book helps folk who know their number / energy space and want to know what to do next. I am grateful for the continued grace I receive which prompts / encourages / smooths the way for me to “show up” and be the person the Holy One created me to be.
